Rehab at Home
Going to hospital? Want to recover in your own home as an alternative to hospital? We’ve got a treatment program called Rehab at Home that can help get you home from hospital sooner.
What is it?
Rehab at Home is a hospital substitute treatment program for rehab services in the comfort of your home rather than staying in hospital. It lets you receive short-term therapy services like physio and wound care after surgery at home – as long as your doctor agrees.
What’s it for?
Rehab at Home can help you recover from:
- joint replacements
- fractures
- neurological conditions
- respiratory conditions
- cardiac conditions
- problems and falls
- spinal conditions
How does it work?
If you’re having surgery that requires inpatient rehabilitation to recover, you can let your doctor know you’re covered for home rehab as another option for treatment.
If your doctor thinks home treatment will work for you, they can simply refer you to one of our contracted health providers who will set you up and develop a care plan that’s right for you.
Your doctor will know where the best place is for you to recover, so access to the program is dependent on their referral.
How will it help?
Our healthcare providers give you access to health services you may need to recover such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing in the comfort of your home. Their qualified health professionals will work with you and your doctor to ensure your treatment plan is right for you, help with your recovery and get you back on your feet.
The program includes:
- physio
- occupational therapy
- wound management
- help with planning and understanding your care
On top of that, our providers will make sure that your home is safe and suitable for the care you need.

Our providers are qualified health professionals who deliver just as high quality care as any hospital would – you’re in safe hands.
Not at all. If you hold one of our eligible hospital covers, you’re fully covered if you go in for rehab and it won’t cost you a thing. If there are any costs for you direct with the provider – it doesn’t affect your premium with us either, we just pay the bill.
All your treatment information is kept completely confidential with our contracted healthcare providers. We won’t have access to any personal health information you give them, but if you’d like to read our Privacy Policy to make sure, click here.
You need to have already served your 12-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions to use this program. This means that if you want to use it in the first 12 months of having or upgrading cover, we’ll need to check with your doctors to make sure it’s not for a condition you already had. If it’s not a pre-existing condition, only the 2-month waiting period applies.
The same restrictions on your hospital cover apply to Hospital at Home services i.e. you won't be eligible to receive any Hospital at Home services for hospital treatments you're not covered for. The provider will let you know if there are any out-of-pocket fees – in most cases there are no costs.
