Read on to learn about the difference between a chiro and osteo, and if these services will be covered on your extras
What’s the difference between chiropractic and osteopathic services?
Service | Description |
---|---|
Chiropractic | Chiropractors have a hands-on approach to the body with stretching, mobilisation, spinal manipulation and adjustments. They examine and treat problems of the bones, muscles and joints, things like stiffness, neck and back pain, injuries and restricted movements. Chiros can also recommend rehabilitation exercises, nutritional and lifestyle advice. You don’t need a referral from your GP to see them. Source: Better Health |
Osteopathic | Osteopaths focus on the musculoskeletal system (our bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments) and its importance to our health and wellbeing. They look at the whole body to find the root of the problem (through soft tissues, the spine and nervous system), not just focusing on that one sore spot. They treat headaches, sports injuries, arthritis, neck and back pain through gentle movements and stretches that manipulate those areas. Osteos can provide exercise routines, relaxation techniques and body awareness sessions. You don’t need a referral from your GP to see them. Source: Better Health |
Don’t miss out on Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) claiming
Chronic Disease Management Plans are for chronic conditions that have lasted for at least six months. If you have a chronic condition, you can get help from both the government and Peoplecare if you follow our steps.
Your GP will decide if you are eligible for Medicare funded Allied Health Services. Usually, Medicare provides benefits for five visits per person per calendar year. For the sixth visit and subsequent visits, you can claim from your extras cover and start drawing down on your limits. Chiropractic and osteopathic visits may be claimable if you take part in this program.
